Peterborough business launches fundraiser for coworking space | Economy

PETERBOROUGH — A makerspace recently launched a crowdfunding campaign to offer co-working.

The Cornucopia Project, an organization that promotes healthy eating habits in the Monadnock Region through education initiatives, rents two offices at Monadnock Art x Tech Makerspace, at 49 Vose Farm Road. But Roy Schlieben, MAxT’s executive director, said there’s about 6,000 square feet of unused space that the two organizations plan to transform into a co-working center.

Through The Local Crowd Monadnock, a regional crowdfunding platform, the 30-day funding campaign began Aug. 22 with a goal of $9,700.

While some co-working spaces charge more for the ability to rent a specific desk, Schlieben said the goal of this space — to be called The Co — is to offer a communal working area with shared desks and a kitchenette at a rate of $35 per month.

“It’s just sort of a different atmosphere, and we chose that specifically because there’s not something like that in the area,” he said.

If the organizations meet their funding goal by the Sept. 20 deadline, Schlieben expects a quick turnaround for launching The Co. MAxT will make some of the furniture, and the campaign funds will pay for the rest.

Schlieben expects the space to open within a month of the fundraiser’s close, if all goes according to plan.
